Piedmont Peace Center holds classes on a number of topics regularly throughout the year. Contact us for more information.

Co-Parenting Training

Classes are held once a month on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: 98 Alexandria Pike, Suite 52 (Fifth Floor), Warrenton, VA 20186.

Important: The building is locked on the weekends. Please be ON TIME as the instructor must let you in. Thank you.

The regular cost is $30 which includes a book and other handouts. Payment is expected before the class date.

All class participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Classes will cover the following:

The effects of separation and divorce on children and families; the impact of parental conflict on children; how to improve parenting skills; developmental stages of children; parenting responsibilities; options for conflict resolution and parental financial responsibilities.

Basic Mediation Training

Held periodically on an as-needed basis, this 20-Hour interactive course teaches practical, effective mediation skills applicable in general district court and many arenas and is great training for anyone interested in conflict resolution. Participants will learn and practice key skills in conflict resolution, interest-based negotiations, reflective listening, facilitation, and structured problem-solving. The course is approved by the Division of Dispute Resolution Services, Supreme Court of Virginia for general district court mediator certification. It is offered approximately two times a year. Continuing Mediation Training

Piedmont Peace Center offers continuing mediation education classes to assist our mediators in networking with and learning from other mediators, sharpening our skills and obtaining the necessary hours for recertification. There is no charge for active PPC volunteers. The fee for mediators not affiliated with PPC typically costs approximately $35 per class.  These classes are offered throughout the year. Community Circles & Restorative Practices Training

PDRC offers one to two day trainings for Community and Restorative Circles. This highly effective program is an excellent alternative to zero tolerance policies and has proven to reduce misbehavior, increase student and faculty morale and increase community mindfulness. PDRC has trained extensively with Alexandria City, Arlington, Fauquier, Rappahannock, Orange, and Prince William County Schools, to train their staff to include principals, assistant principals, school counselors, teachers and others in this program.

Mentoring

Piedmont Dispute Resolution offers mentoring services to potential mediators.  Our experienced mediators will be happy to work with you. We’ll help you reach your mediation goals. Please contact us for more information.

Internships

Numerous colleges and universities have used the Center as a site for student interns in the Fall and Spring Semester as well as during the summer months. While interning at PDRC, interns are provided the opportunity to:

  • Work within the court system
  • Work one-on-one with clients
  • Perform case management duties such as intake interviews, screening for appropriateness, referring case to other agencies, and scheduling mediation sessions
  • Assist with various special projects related to running a non-profit organization
